Hi, I am John Ashton. I am a NARI-certified re-modeler (#4169) and I want to share a personal message with you. I have been in the home remodeling industry in one way or another for a very long time. In fact, I remember a time when being a craftsman really meant something. Nowadays, it just seems like everyone is happy with being a jack-of-all-trades handyman installer. And I am not just talking about home remodeling; it seems like “multi-tasking” is the new norm. Quite frankly, that might work well in an office environment but it’s just asking for trouble when it comes to home remodeling. Industry standards are changing so fast, and new technology comes out all the time. How exactly does a “jack of all trades” re-modeler stay on top of it all? The simple answer is that they don’t.

Our company was started in August of 1989 and registered in the State of Ohio to do business as Baths Plus Inc. The primary business was as a bathroom contractor for Sears Home Improvement Services and kitchen installation services for Central Hardware. Baths Plus Inc. quickly became the installer of choice for much of the sales force at these companies. Sears and Central Hardware knew that we were dependable; we could do the job cleanly, on budget, and on time.

In 1991, Baths Plus Inc. was recognized by their peers and invited to join the local chapter of the National Association of Re-modelers Industry (NARI). In 1993, Baths Plus Inc. became a preferred contractor for many of the popular Internet referral services (most of which are gone now). Baths Plus Inc. has been a member of numerous associations and takes pride in being a member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB), the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, the Building Trades Association, the Kitchen & Baths Association, and the National Association of Re-modelers Industry, of which John Ashton, our founder, has achieved the rank of Nationally Certified Re-modeler (CR).

In August of 1989, John Ashton started Baths Plus, knowing he wanted to be a legitimate remodeling company right from the start. In August of 2003, Baths Plus Inc. opened its first showroom in Milford, a small 1400-square-foot strip center. Baths Plus Inc. quickly outgrew this location and, in the fall of 2006, moved to Reading, Ohio, in the center of Cincinnati, with almost 3700 square feet of space .In 1993, John Ashton was accepted onto the local NARI chapter board, serving as Grievance and Ethics Chairperson. Baths Plus Inc. has been a member of numerous associations and takes pride in being a member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB), the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, the Kitchen & Bath Association, and the National Association of Re-modelers Industry.

In 2007, John Ashton passed the National Association of Re-modelers Industry certification program. A certified re-modeler, as deemed by the National Association of Re-modelers Industry, is one of only a few in Cincinnati. John has gone on to host and facilitate the certification programs for our local Ohio Valley NARI Chapter.

In 2008, John started a program to help his employees, the “Twelve Nights” program. Shakespeare said, “Some are born into greatness, some achieve Greatness and some it is merely thrust upon!”. The program is designed for those installers not yet ready for application into the NARI Lead Carpenter program. This program runs for twelve nights and covers the basics of remodeling techniques. Besides being a great training tool, it allows the attendees to enter-act and learn with hands-on and dealer visits. Baths Plus employees are always encouraged to attend local NARI educational meetings.
